I’ve been working on a science fiction short story for the Southern Indiana Writers Group’s coming sf anthology. Mine is a very silly story, but I don’t feel very silly. Yesterday’s bad news (one daughter lost a job, another daughter’s good friend and co-worker lost her job, one of my dear friends lost a cat) just took all the stuffing out of me.

I think I’ll go for a walk in the woods. It’s a beautiful day, and the sounds and smells will do me good. I’ll take my camera and my mushroom bag and see if anything interesting turns up.

Writing prompt: What do your characters do when all the stuffing has been taken out of them?
