Today is the official start of Christmas baking. I made fruitcake bon-bons today–SHUT UP, fruitcake is GOOD! Especially this fruitcake, which makes little bite-sized cakes that aren’t dry, aren’t heavy, aren’t burnt on the outside and soggy on the inside. Assuming that you like fruitcake mix (glace fruit, etc.), this is perfect.

Doesn’t that look good? This was originally somebody else’s recipe, but I changed it to suit myself, so here is:

MomGoth’s Fruitcake Bites

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons Bourbon
  • 3 cups pecan and walnut pieces
  • 1 16 oz container of fruitcake mix

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream together the butter, brown sugar and eggs. Add the flour, cinnamon and baking soda. Mix together well. Add the orange juice and Bourbon. Mix together well. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Mix with hands. Drop by small spoonfuls onto cookie sheet or roll into balls, depending on how goopy the mix turns out to be. Bake at 350 for 10-20 minutes. Cool, put into airtight container and sprinkle generously with Bourbon. Store in an airtight container. Taste improves over time.
